Bio
Ipek Gorgun is an electronic music composer and a photographer based in Istanbul, Turkey. As a photographer since 2007, she began working as a freelancer, documenting concerts and musicians, as well as street and abstract photography. She won the IPA honorable mention award in 2013-14 for her work entitled “Bubblegun Daydreamer,” and in 2013, she served as the advertising photographer for the Contemporary Istanbul Art fair. In her photographic work, Gorgun explores themes of temporality, memory, perception, movement, and stillness, while focusing on urban life, liminal spaces, and solitary figures suspended between layers of light. She often approaches light as if it were a sound source to be layered and sculpted, so that her frames feel like images that keep breathing from an ongoing experience. After a B.A. in Political Science (Bilkent University) and an M.A. in Philosophy (Galatasaray University), she completed her PhD in Sonic Arts at Istanbul Technical University’s Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) in 2020 with her thesis focusing on temporality and temporal experience in electronic music composition.
