Bio
My name is Jack Major. I am a photographer who focuses on capturing people. My work is rooted in emotion. Throughout my images, I work to capture the moment as I see it. From a very young age, I have been deeply fascinated by the human experience. The idea of why someone does what they do, personal relationships with others, and the moments of life that feel so personal, only you could experience them. Over my 21 years on this earth, I have been blessed with community wherever I have gone. My memories with these people are the most important to me. I find direct inspiration from my life and my people. With my work, my ultimate goal is to create an environment that invites the viewer into the image. Creating a point of connection between myself as the artist and those who see my work. The photos that I make are for me. Photography is my direct expression of my perspective on life. I am currently in my third year of study at SCAD, receiving my B.F.A in Photography, as I continue to refine my craft and process as an artist, I want to make art for people, about people, inspired by people. Light plays a vital role throughout my work. Light in my images is crucial to conveying the photo's emotion. I primarily use constant or available light in my photos. I treat the light as another character within the image. I am constantly finding new ways to manipulate light through the lens's view. When used appropriately, light can almost dance around the image, interacting with the subject, casting shadows, or creating lens flares. My lighting style is inspired by film and cinematic lighting. Light sets the mood. It creates depth, drama, and emotion.
